Learning Management System

Custom Education Platform.

Working with Adventist Learning Community we created a custom education platform that provides continuing education courses, teaching courses, ministerial training, and distribution of unique content for a user base of over one million employees and members. I joined the project midway through its creation and led the UX/UI design for a number of major user-facing sections, as well as the backend dashboard for both participants and administrators.

Concurrently, I completed end-to-end UX/UI design for a complementary application that connects members who are teachers and allows them to participate in projects as well as share their results and experiences with each other.

MY ROLE

Collaborating with team members in UXPin, I took existing UX/UI elements that were in place and adapted them to fit the needs of several main sections that still needed to be conceptualized and created.

DISCOVERY

Resource design.

One of the main sections I worked on was an area for users to access, search, view, and leave reviews on a wide variety of resources including videos, photos, audio files, documents, and more. After meeting internally with team members who were close to the project, reviewing the needs of the client and doing some competitive research, I did a series of iterative designs until we reached a final design direction. I additionally worked through the same discovery and design flow on a series of video/audio resources, and a submission form for users to make resource suggestions.

CREATION

Administrative capabilities.

It was a challenge to join the project midstream and capture the intent of the design without a style guide in place. This necessitated working closely with the original designer to make sure the project did not feel disjointed. Because the site was built with a custom CMS, I also conceptualized and created the administrative side needed to create/edit individual resources and series of resources. Additionally, special attention was given to ensuring the design was mobile friendly and provided subtle interactions.

My work on the project helped facilitate its completion and launch. Access the site at: adventistlearningcommunity.com.

MY ROLE

I was the lead UX/UI designer on a secondary application concurrently created for a subset of Adventist Learning Community (ALC) users. I worked with the initial designer for final design approval, and communicated with the stakeholders to make sure their needs for the project were met.

DISCOVERY

Maintaining design elements.

After several stakeholder interviews, conducting competitive research, and juggling priorities with the needs of the original ALC project, I completed the UX design in UXPin. Keeping the parent application design elements in mind, I verified with the initial designer that the new design direction was still in line with the original intent.

CREATION

Revealing edits with testing.

After client approval I finalized the UI design in Sketch in time for the client to use exported materials to pitch the project to potential sponsors. I continued to work with the developer as the project moved on to the next phase, and made adjustments when needed to meet the client’s expectations.

Final beta testing revealed a need to redesign the flow of how to join, to make sure that the Connect section was pre-populated with teacher profiles. Working with the programmer on the project we made the necessary edits to adjust the flow.
