BIZINT

Commercial Market Visualization

Working in partnership with the Department of the Air Force, and key stakeholders from other branches of the military, the BIZINT app was created to help support military missions, exercises, and disaster relief efforts. The goal was to provide a snapshot of the capacity of the marketplace in any given area, providing functional planners and contingency contractors the ability to add and manage vendor profiles of businesses and contractors they worked with in the past. With features such as offline access, market research reports, and vendor ratings, this project allowed visibility for items that could be sourced locally.

METHODS USED:

Stakeholder Interviews, User Interviews, UX/UI Wireframing, Prototype Testing, Iterative Design, Data Aggregation and Logic

"As for the future, your task is not to foresee it, but to enable it."

ANTOINE DE SAINT EXUPERY

MY ROLE

I was the Lead UX/UI Designer for BIZINT. I took over in the second round of funding for this project. Initial exploration and research had been done, but I conducted additional user interviews, and continued to involve users in testing new iterations of the project. A redesign of the UI was completed in Figma, and branding was developed for the app, as well as exploration of a future administrative dashboard that would provide insight into contract spending, and include vendor, commodity/service, and user management.

DISCOVERY

Expanding on the basics

When I came into the project the foundations of the app were in place, but not much had been done in regards to exploration of the commodity/service data and how it should be captured and stored. I worked with the development team and functional planners to consolidate and itemize the details of how best to capture the information needed for over 120 selected parent items, and which subcategories should be captured beneath them. This process continued to be refined as we seeded the app with actual data before the MVP was launched in early 2022.

User testing of the development version of the app was conducted in Germany and I worked with the project manager to compile the results of the testing into actionable items. Another round of testing was completed with additional user groups to refine new concepts around universal search and vendor rating, before the final designs were pushed to the developers.

CREATION

Simplifying complexity.

BIZINT is both a mobile and web application, developed with Flutter, so I created new horizontal views that improved the user experience when they used the app in a web view.

I took the app through several revisions, based on user feedback and rebranding.

I created a design system in Figma to provide consistency and allow for quicker exploration as new features were requested.

Before I left the project, exploration into an administrative dashboard had been mocked up and developed into a high fidelity prototype, ready for demonstration as a direction for future enhancements of key app functionality.

I worked closely with the project manager, development team, and key stakeholders of this project to create an app that provides much-needed support for its users.
